HUBUNGAN PENGETAHUAN, DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DAN KEPATUHAN PENGOBATAN DENGAN HAMBATAN PENERAPAN SELF CARE MANAGEMENT PENDERITA DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract


Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder that is a global health problem, where 10.5% of adults in the world suffer from diabetes mellitus, likewise in Indonesia the prevalence of DM is 8.5% or around 20.4 million and In the Padang Luar Community Health Center working area, 140 cases of diabetes mellitus were recorded. Every diabetes mellitus patient is advised to implement self-care as an effort to control blood sugar levels to prevent, inhibit and slow down complications from diabetes mellitus. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the factors Knowledge, Family Support and medication compliance with the barriers of implementation of self-care management in diabetes mellitus sufferers in the Padang Luar Health Center working area in 2023. This research was designed with  descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all diabetes mellitus patients in the Padang Luar Community Health Center working area. Sampling used a total sampling technique with a sample size of 140 people. Data collection used a questionnaire, data analysis included univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Spearman rank test. Results: The research results show that there are  significant relationshisp between the knowledge factor and the implementation of self-care management (p = 0.000 and r = 0.602), family support with self-care management (p = 0.000 and r = 0.608) and medication compliance with self-care management (p = 0.000 and r = 0.750). Conclusions and Suggestions: It can be concluded that knowledge, family support and medication compliance are factors that hinder the implementation of self-care management in diabetes mellitus patients. It is suggested that the Padang Luar Community Health Center, will always provide education and outreach to diabetes mellitus sufferers about the importance of implementing self-care management as an effort to control blood sugar levels and prevent complications.
